Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy(HBOT)It allows patients to inhale pure oxygen for a short period of time in a hyperbaric chamber with a pressure greater than one atmosphere to increase the concentration of oxygen molecules in the blood and accelerate the repair speed and ability of body tissues. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for dental treatment to promote wound healing.
- Promote wound healing: Increased oxygen molecules can promote cell metabolism and accelerate the wound healing process.
- Antibacterial effect: Reduce tissue swelling, improve the body’s antibacterial ability, and reduce the risk of infection.
- Reduce swelling and pain: Hyperbaric oxygen helps reduce tissue swelling and pain.
- Reduce the bacterial content in the oral cavity: Most of the bacteria that cause periodontal disease and tooth decay are anaerobic bacteria, and high-pressure oxygen can inhibit the activity of anaerobic bacteria.
- Conjugated oxygen: must rely on heme binding to transport
- Dissolved oxygen: directly dissolved and dispersed in plasma, released in surrounding tissues
High pressure + high concentration oxygen greatly increases the oxygen partial pressure of body tissues, increases the amount of dissolved oxygen in plasma, and provides more oxygen for use by tissues and cells.
Application of hyperbaric oxygen in dental implants
- Improve the success rate of surgery:
Hyperbaric oxygen treatment can ensure adequate blood supply in the dental implant area, thereby improving the success rate of osseointegration.
- Speed up recovery after surgery:
High concentrations of pure oxygen can accelerate wound healing and reduce pain and swelling after surgery.
- To prevent and treat infections:
For infections that may occur after surgery, hyperbaric oxygen therapy can provide an environment conducive to the body's fight against infection.
Contraindications to hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- epilepsy
- Having a fever
- suffering from asthma
- pregnant women
- claustrophobia
- severe hypertension
- Severe ear and nose disease
- Have had chest disease
- equipped with cardiac pacemaker
- Oxygen allergy or oxygen toxicity
- Cancer treatment or cancer diagnosis
- Severe influenza or upper respiratory tract infection
Precautions for hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- It is forbidden to drink carbonated drinks and alcoholic drinks 1 hour before treatment (gas expansion can easily cause flatulence and discomfort).
- No smoking 2 hours before treatment (nicotine will cause vasoconstriction and reduce the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy).
- During the treatment process, due to the high oxygen content in the hyperbaric oxygen chamber, it is prohibited to carry flammable materials including mobile phones, cigarettes, lighters, hearing aids, etc. to avoid explosions.
- Remove metal objects from your body: watches, coins, jewelry, hairpins, cosmetics, hair sprays, and heating packs to avoid fire hazards.
Before entering the cabin, blood pressure (below 140 mgh) and body temperature (below 37.5°C) must be measured.
- Cosmetics, nail polish, perfume, lipstick, lip balm, hair oil, styling lotion, etc. are not allowed when entering the cabin.
- Remove removable dentures and contact lenses (temporary air bubbles may result in blurred vision).
- During the process of increasing and decreasing pressure during hyperbaric oxygen therapy, changes in pressure will irritate the eardrum. At this time, you can try actions such as swallowing saliva or yawning to balance the ear pressure.
- When pressurizing, the temperature inside the cabin will rise slightly; when depressurizing, the temperature will drop slightly.
- If you have any symptoms of discomfort such as: chest tightness, dizziness, nausea, etc., you should inform the operator directly in the cabin and do not hit the cabin with your hands to avoid danger.
